Once you’ve found the one you want, you get a display with information including a phone number, the ability to visit the institution’s website, a link to Maps, a checklist of other materials accepted, Restrictions, and additional notes. Of course each of these items only appears if the location has that information readily available sometimes all you get is a location.Share button in the upper right-hand corner when you get to a location screen and everything connects as it should. This app is so easy to use and so helpful when we want to recycle our wares that it’s almost amazing that it’s free.

BlackBerry 10 is said to be designed as a touch-first operating system. RIM has said from the early days of BB10 development that it would continue to support and produce phones with physical keypads. The company adamantly claims their customers love the QWERTY keypad. LG Plans to Launch HomeTheater In 2013

 

Its home audio offerings are anchored by four new sound bar models, with all but the entry-level NB2030A featuring built-in Bluetooth and a wireless subwoofer. The top two models come in a new, larger size, designed to match 47-inch TVs, which reflects the rising popularity of larger screen HDTVs.

The strangest model may be the NB3730A, which includes built-in Wi-Fi and a basic streaming-media suite including including Netflix, YouTube, Amazon, Hulu Plus, Vudu, and Pandora. Paying extra for streaming-media in a sound bar seems like a hard sell especially with the superior Roku LT available for just $50 so I'd be surprised if many people opted for the NB3730A over less expensive models.

The chart also includes LG's line of Blu-ray home-theater-in-a-box systems, which all featuring built-in Wi-Fi and LG's full Smart TV suite of apps. You'll notice the higher-end models are listed as "9.1 systems", but that's more marketing than anything else the additional channels are top-mounted drivers on the speakers, designed to create a more immersive sound Regardless, I've been hesitant to recommend HTIB systems these days over competing options, and these models don't offer anything that changes my mind.

For Blu-ray, LG is slimming its line down to just three models: BP330, BP530 and BP730. At first glance, the entry-level BP330 looks most attractive, with built-in Wi-Fi and the same stripped-down collection of streaming services included on the NB3730A sound bar.

The most interesting step-up feature on the BP530 and BDP730 is private sound mode, which lets you listen to the audio of your Blu-ray player via an app on your smartphone -- essentially a DIY wireless headphones solution. That's probably not enough incentive to pay extra over the BP330, but it's a feature that's likely to appeal to more buyers than 3D, 4K upscaling, or a Web browser.workaday products in the new line for buyers looking to pickup a Blu-ray player, Bluetooth speaker, or sound bar, although we'll have a better idea after LG announces pricing.

But he did offer that other phones were 10 times faster than the iPhone and that only Apple wants to push iPhones, Verizon doesn't.I am sure that in neither case could the salesperson's iPooh-poohing be at all related to the amount of money the store makes from the iPhone.

Instagram Drive to Attempt to change its Terms of Service

Instagram updated terms of service, introduced last Monday (though Instagram has since beckpedaled), would "transfer valuable property rights to Instagram while simultaneously relieving Instagram from any liability for commercially exploiting customers' photographs and artistic content, while shielding Instagram from legal liability, reads the suit, filed in U.S. District Court in San Francisco on LAST Friday.

Instagram making a "grab for customer property rights," the suit claims, it's also attempting to cover its tail by prohibiting users from seeking legal injunction against the service, or indeed through a no-class-action arbitration clause any legal action aside from small-claims remedies.

Instagram had said the new terms of service would go into effect January 16 and that users could not opt out but could delete their accounts before the deadline. The suit takes issue with that last point, saying customers could cancel, but that in doing so they'd forfeit the right to their photos

Classic Facebook's clone of Snapchat

Facebook's clone of Snapchat, the app whose messages self-destruct after 1 to 10 seconds. As many people like to point out, it's perfect for sexting, but there are a lot of other fun and innovative uses for this clever type of messaging.

For all intents and purposes, Poke is almost identical to Snapchat. Snapchat is focused on photos and videos, while Poke adds self-destructing messages and the classic Facebook poke feature to its arsenal. Poke relies entirely on your Facebook friend network, while Snapchat can dig into your contacts and let you share photos with strangers.

Snapchat already has a loyal user base that sends more than 50 million photos across its network every day, with many of its users teenagers.

Defensibility

Technology startups' products aren't easy to clone because they have proprietary technology that even the big companies don't have. Just imagine AltaVista trying to clone Google it wouldn't have succeeded.

Snapchat's current users aren't going to immediately abandon the app for Facebook Poke. They've built up friends, messages, and a history on Snapchat, and they will continue to invite their friends to join. Poke's launch could affect user growth as potential users may choose it over Snapchat, but Poke also brings a lot more attention to the market and may end up boosting Snapchat's growth. How both apps perform in the App Store over the next few weeks will give us a better idea of Facebook's impact on Snapchat.


Snapchat's founders have been at this since May 2011. They've had time to think about the road map for their product, and they don't have dozens of other products and projects to distract them. Snapchat's founders reportedly turned down an acquisition offer from Facebook. They wouldn't do that if they didn't have a long-term plan they were confident in.

Cracking Strategy Chief Microsoft No More With Us Retire After One Year

Microsoft's chief research and strategy officer, Craig Mundie, said he will step down from his role as he prepares for his retirement in 2014.Mundie has taken on the position of "senior adviser to the CEO," according to his biography on Microsoft's Web site. His responsibilities, which include overseeing Microsoft Research and other technical strategy duties, will fall to Eric Rudder, the company's chief technical strategy officer, according to AllThingsD.

The move was announced internally in a December 14 memo from CEO Steve Ballmer, but it had not been publicized, according to the report. Mundie will turn 65 in 2014.Mundie's new role isn't well defined, but he will report to CEO Steve Ballmer.

Mundie had served as the chief research and strategy officer since Bill Gates left his full-time position at Microsoft in 2006, and he inherited some of Gates' duties. He also worked with Gates to develop the company's global strategies around technical, business and according to the company.

Facebook Turns to Expands Photo Upload Feature

Facebook last week opened a new front in the so-called photo app wars with the launch of its ephemeral photo app Poke. But Facebook’s focus on apps like Poke, Camera and Instagram doesn’t mean that it is has stopped enhancing the photo experience on its main social networking platform. Facebook has now implemented a new “drag to upload” feature to allow users to add photos to their status updates more easily.

Photographs are one of the most central parts of the Facebook experience. They are one of the main reasons that people regularly use the site, both to upload their own pictures to share with others and to see their friends’ pictures. That means making photos easier to upload is an important part of increasing that engagement and time spent on Facebook. And engagement and time spent on the site, of course, are crucial metrics for the ad-funded service.

The users can now drag images from their PC/Mac desktops directly into the status update box, and
even upload several pictures at once without needing to create an album. That speeds up and simplifies the process of uploading images, saving users a few moments of clicking around windows to upload a file.

Two New Google Tv's From LG Releasing Between FEB-APR 2013







LG has announced two new Google TVs for release in 2013 that will include QWERTY remote controls and natural speech recognition.Following last year's singular G2 Google TV, the company is offering the GA7900 (55-inch, 47-inch) and the GA6400 (60-inches).

Both televisions have QWERTY motion remote controls with an integrated mic for "natural" voice commands. The design will be different from the new Motion Remotes announced in late December but will likely resemble the reversible slab that shipped with the G2. Passive Cinema 3D will also be part of both models.

The top-of-the-line GA7900 features an edge-lit LED with local dimming and a 240Hz refresh rate, which likely includes backlight scanning as in previous years' models. As a counter to this, the GA6400 is simply edge-lit and includes a lower 120Hz refresh. As far as the information we have been provided is concerned, these are the main differences between the two products.

3D-Printed Records

TechShop in San Francisco and created the records on a large-scale Objet Connex500 printer, which has a particularly high 600dpi X and Y resolution and a print layer accuracy of 16 microns.the reason, vinyl's recent popularity has led to events like Record Store Day and DIY projects like Amanda Ghassaei's 3D-printed records.

It produced records with grooves that are wider and deeper than factory-made vinyls, so each side can only fit five or six minutes of sound. Microsoft is saying about the 2-pound tablet

64-bit computing in a tablet: Surface with Windows 8 Pro is "a 64-bit tablet PC." That's not a trivial point. You get all of the goodness of 64-bit computing via Intel's power-efficient Core i5 Ivy Bridge processors. Surface RT, on the other hand, is 32-bit only.

Security: Support for the same level of security you can expect with any corporate Windows laptop. And Microsoft includes sBitLocker, which encrypts your hard drive's data.

Pen: It includes a pen. That really a holdover from the Windows 7 slates but something that some business customers still want.

Mini DisplayPort/display: This allows connection to large high-resolution displays. That said, the Surface Pro's 10.6-inch 1,920x1,080-pixel display is already the same resolution of some desktop displays. Other ports include a full-size USB 3.0, microSDXC card slot, headset jack, and Cover port.

Microsoft, in effect, pre-announced the Surface Pro's battery life the other day. Let's just hope that it trends closer to an ultrabook with a tolerable run-down time. This is a tablet, after all.

Let's close on a high note, though. Early this year, I had a chance to use the Intel Core i5-based Samsung tablet with Windows 8 Developer Preview.I was immediately wowed by its speed. At the time, I felt it was much quicker than the iPad 2 I had been using every day.

If the Surface Pro can replicate that experience, it will attract power users looking for a snappy Windows 8 tablet.

Microsoft Turns To Build Devices and Web Services

Microsoft pushed down that path in 2012 with its new Windows 8 operating system, which provides a platform for a bevy of Web-connected services it hopes consumers will use. And it rolled out its Surface RT tablet computer, a slick-looking slate-and-keypad combination designed to grab share in the market that Apple's iPad now dominates.

Windows 8 tablets

The first tablets from Microsoft and its partners used a variant of Windows 8, called Windows RT, designed specifically for devices running the ARM system-on-a-chip architecture that keeps gadgets thin and extends battery life. Next year, beefier and more expensive tablets will emerge that run the full version of Windows 8.

It's a bit confusing for consumers. But the Windows 8 tablets will be able to do a few things the Windows RT ones can't; most notably, they'll run legacy Windows applications in the familiar desktop mode. That could have some appeal for corporate customers, who are likely to be slow to adopt the new tile-based interface on Windows RT devices.

Kin THREE
The Microsoft could try its hand at making a mobile phone. After all, the company rolled out the Surface, competing directly with hardware makers, to showcase Windows 8 on tablets. It's not too much of a reach to believe that the company might make a mobile phone to put its Windows Phone 8 operating system in the best light.Microsoft made mobile phones once before. The short-lived Kin ONE and Kin TWO were yanked from the market less than two months after their debut. That disaster notwithstanding, if Microsoft is really going to be a devices and services company, making its own phone seems like a possible next step.

Xbox Next
Microsoft is already a device company. Just look no farther than its Xbox video game console. The first Xbox debuted in 2001. Its successor, the Xbox 360, hit shelves in 2005. It's remarkable that the Xbox 360 continues to sell well, even outselling Nintendo's brand new Wii U console in November, according to NPD.Engineers, designers and product managers have been plugging away at a gadget, dubbed by some as Xbox Next or Xbox 720. It's likely that Microsoft will announce plans for its next console, perhaps at the Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles next June.

Microsoft has been increasingly morphing the device into an entertainment system complete with movie, cable and music services. Count on the next Xbox to push even farther in that direction.

Skype is Microsoft verb
Microsoft has offered plenty of services over the years, everything from Xbox Live to its Skydrive Web storage offering. But Microsoft never had a product that users invoked as a verb.

Skype may well be a prototypical service for Microsoft's future offerings. More than a quarter billion users tap into Skype on their PCs, tablets and smartphones. That's not enough for Microsoft, though. It's putting Skype at the heart of all its communications offerings. Starting early next year, Skype will replace Microsoft's instant messaging service, Windows Live Messenger.

There is already a version of Skype for Windows 8, complete with the tile-based interface that's at the core of the new operating system. Skype engineers are working on a Windows Phone application. It's not too hard to imagine that Microsoft will offer a version of Skype for the Xbox as well.
