How to Create Powerful Titles for Your Blog Posts


With so much competition out there in virtually every niche, making your blog post or web page stand out from the rest can be difficult – but is also vital for long-term success. Without a headline that captivates the attention of the reader, it is very likely that they will go elsewhere to find the information they need. Your blog post title may very well be the first and only descriptor that a reader sees if he or she stumbles across it via search, so you should view this as your one and only chance to get it right. Below, we’ll discuss ways you can create powerful titles for your blog posts so that you can draw in the traffic your blog deserves.

Descriptive and Action-Packed

If your blog titles seem a bit too dull, then your readers probably feel the same. One of the best ways you can bring attention to your blog titles is through the use of action words. Action words are words that illicit a certain imagery or (surprise) action when reading. For example, a blog post titled “Three Ways To Clean Your Home” would gain much more attention as “Blast Away the Dirt – Three Methods for Making Your Abode Spotless”. The word ‘blast’ conveys an action that is obviously much more powerful than ‘clean’, while ‘abode’ replaces a boring, generic moniker like ‘home’.

Don’t Drag It Out

Sometimes, we may feel that being as descriptive as possible when it comes to blog titles is a good thing. It is, but the goal is to do so with as few words as possible. Not only will this help you when pinging search engines, but it will also help attract and keep the attention of potential readers who are gazing across multiple results that all more or less are vying for their eyes. Blogs that summarize the content in a brief and concise way are also far more likely to be shared via social media and email than blog posts that have drawn out titles consisting of dozens of characters.

Use Keywords

Let’s take a step back from appealing to the reader and focus for a second on attracting attention from search engines. If you use a creative, clever title for your blog post but fail to accurately convey the keywords associated with the content, then you will have a smaller chance of being exposed to the most optimal audiences. Search engines are very intuitive, but failing to provide them with relevant keywords through your titles can be a recipe for disaster.

Be Assertive

When pinging search engines, your blog title should exude confidence and issue a definitive statement on whatever matter you are discussing – you want to be an expert on what it is you are talking about, and seeming anything but that will lead to readers not selecting your blog as their source for information. Assertive statements will include the use of words such as ‘should’ rather than can.

How to Communicate your Neighbours using Wi-Fi

Your wireless network has a name (or SSID) that will show up on your neighbour’s computer and mobile phone. You can put the complaint message in your Wi-Fi name and your neighbours may see it when their device is scanning for available wireless names to connect to the Internet.

And unless you are the only house in that area with a router, your neighbours are less likely to figure out who is showing them that message. This is much like leaving a sticky note on your neighbour’s door anonymously.

BlackBerry Viber overhauls app to v2.3 coming in April 2013

Doing its best Kate Bush impression, Viber's letting its BlackBerry users know that something good is gonna happen. Specifically, that the company is bringing VoIP calls to the platform, currently pencilled in for arrival in April. It's laid the groundwork for the new feature with version 2.3 of the app for RIM phones, which refreshes the UI and adds support for Arabic and Spanish language users. Create Amazing Music with your iPhone on iOS

Apple has cooked up an amazing opportunity with iOS, and music developers aren't letting the side down. There's an ocean of apps out there, and it doesn't matter if you're a virtuoso violinist or Bez from Happy Mondays - you'll find something that makes your jaw drop.


It's not just possible to perform on stage - you can also play melodies through emulations of world-famous hardware synths; jam on your guitar to the sound of classic stacks; record and manipulate vocals; sample and edit the world around you; tap out banging beats; put together tracks just as you would in a professional audio-editing package; export your efforts for all the world to see; and more.

The best place to start is with Apple's GarageBand for iOS (£2.99): its Smart Instruments will turn your butterfingers into the confident digits of an experienced musician. You can command swelling strings, pick out cool riffs on acoustic and electric guitars, get grooving on bass or jam on the keyboard.

If you'd like to take a step further and use your iPhone or iPad as the main mixing interface, algoriddim's djay (69p for iPhone/ iPod touch; £13.99 for iPad) is the one all the rest are trying to beat.

Microsoft Brings Game

Microsoft has put together a concept video showing off an immersive gaming setup where gameplay extends beyond the piddling confines of your TV.The IllumiRoom idea, which Microsoft patented late last year, basically turns your whole room into the gaming canvas using a Kinect for Windows camera coupled with a projector connected to the console as well as the TV.
The video shows bits and pieces of game debris shooting out of the screen and around the room, the idea being to put your peripheral vision to good use and generally give you a 'being there' vibe as you play.The company also insists that the effects shown are rendered in real time and are captured live - not special effects added in post processing, which gives us the impression that it's seriously serious about this one.

This full-room gaming hit the market alongside the next generation Xbox 720.It's part of Microsoft's Research division at the moment so the jury's out but imagine how good it would be coupled with Kinect's motion sensing prowess.

Now Windows Live Messenger Closing Forever

The CES 2013 hubbub please. Microsoft has announced the day that Windows Live Messenger will be put out to pasture.March 15 is the day to black out in your diary, as the company encourages those of us still steadfastly clinging on to Messenger to move over to relatively new kid on the block, Skype.

Microsoft didn't spunk $8 billion on Skype to let you carry on IMing in peace on a familiar bit of software you've been using for 13 years.Microsoft's Skype clients have had a bit of an overhaul, with a Windows 8 app and Windows Phone 8 preview version out now - Office 2013 has Skype baked-in as well.

But for the rest of the service's 100 million users, it's to Skype we go. Or Facebook Messenger. Or Google Chat. Or iMessage. Or BBM. Or Twitter.

Panasonic Brings New Ranges of LCD & LED TVs

Panasonic believes that its new LED /LCD TVs push the envelope in terms of form and functionality, as it announces no less than seven new ranges.The Japanese giant has extended its Smart Viera offering with new connected functionality, and is hoping that the likes of the new flagship WT60 series can be the centerpiece of our home.

There's nothing that will blow your mind - although the WT60 brings 2D-3D conversion, Clear Panel Pro and a new design which incorporates a camera for those awkward video calls.Next up is the DT60, which comes in 55 and 60-inches and the ET60 which offers up 50 and 55-inch. Below that are the E60, EM60, XM6 and B6 with the last two only offering 720p and 32 inch screens but the rest full HD 1080p.

The Panasonic 2013 Viera LED LCD HDTVs will apparently be available in the spring of 2013 and makes its debut at CES 2013.

Google TV From Asus

Asus got into the Google TV game in a rectangular way at CES 2013 Monday as it announced its Qube Google TV entertainment device.

The Qube has both motion control and voice search and runs Android. Users can group downloaded apps in the Asus-designed user interface. Using the Mobile Remote app for Android turns smartphones and tablets into controlling devices.

Google Play, picture-in-picture TV viewing and Chrome web browsing also bring life to the Qube.There's no word yet on pricing yet, though it will come with 50GB of Asus WebStorage. U.S. users can find it stateside in late Q1 of 2013.

Nokia must hardly be enjoying life after Symbian and it shows. The fact is that the Finns have nothing but Ashas and the most basic of S30 phones between the last Windows Phone flagship and the next. Nvidia Project Shield For Game

Nvidia's CEO Jen-Hsun Huang has announced a new handheld gaming device during the company's CES 2013 press conference.It looks more like a controller than anything else, although it does boast an integrated 5-inch multitouch screen.The device is "100 per cent Android" according to Huang, and the 4K-capable device is powered by Nvidia's also newly-announced Tegra 4 mobile chip, which boasts 4+1 ARM A15 cores as well as 72 graphics processors. It's the first time the A15 has been used in a quad-core system.

Multiplayer gaming is supported over Wi-Fi. The idea is that you can play cloud-based games from Google Play as well as apps from Nvidia's own TegraZone and even games from Steam - the idea being that Project Shield gives you a different dimension - primarily in terms of portability - for your existing Steam games.

We were shown several games in action on a 4K TV including Blood Sword: Sword of Ruin, and there were no pauses or other issues - Tegra 4 is one powerful processor.The new handheld also boasts a micro SD slot as well as an HDMI output and headphone jack. Huang added that the new device could stream media to the television and was the culmination of five years of work.

Tegra 4 consumes up to 45 percent less power than its predecessor, Tegra 3, in common use cases. And it enables up to 14 hours of HD video playback on phones.

Lenovo came to CES aiming to do something different, or one can surmise that from the company's pre-official CES announcement for the IdeaCentre Horizon table PC, a 27-inch beast of an interpersonal computing machine.The flat-lying all-in-one PC is marketed as a multi-user, multi-touch, multi-mode device for the home that turns personal computing into "a shared experience - gather 'round the kitchen table to play and interact.
The table PC designed to get family, friends and whomever you want to game with playing on a touchscreen device.Horizon runs Windows 8 so naturally comes with 10-point multi-touch touch capability. Lenovo even threw in some pre-loaded, customized games from EA and Ubisoft to get game night cracking.

The beastiest of the table PC's specs, but it also packs a processor up to an Intel Core i7, Nvidia GeForce graphics and the screen is a respectable full HD with 1080p.

INCREASE YOUR SMARTPHONE AND ANDROID BATTERY LIFE

There are actually some tricks that will help you maintain your battery life more effectively:- 

• Have you settings set for optimum power saving. All smartphones have an option to blacken the screen when not in use. You can generally set the amount of time until it goes into this mode, and it will turn the screen back on if you get a call, text or unlock the screen. This makes a huge difference in how it holds a charge. 

• Turn off unnecessary functions. WIFI and Bluetooth are both great features. But if you aren't using them, you will want to actually shut them off. This is because they will drain your battery life very quickly. Never leave them on unless you are using them right now. If possible, get apps that don't require connectivity to work.   

• Don't leave your internet on. I have a tendency to leave the page up when I am surfing the web, while I do other things. Sometimes I go back to it in a few minutes, but sometimes I forget for long periods of time. I am sure I am not the only one with this bad habit. It chews through my battery like crazy, however.

• Put it near a window. I place my phone on the window every night, and it actually helps it to maintain its battery life a little longer. At first I thought I was crazy, but after doing some research it turns out this is really the case. Just don't let it get too cold, or the insides can become brittle, or the screen can crack. Which means that freezer trick your drunk friend swore works? It is an easy way to lose your smartphone. 

• Charge it! This is your best bet to make sure you always have a full battery. I have gotten into the habit of charging my phone every night, thanks to a conveniently placed dock that lets me keep my phone right next to me. When I go to bed, I see it and remember to charge my iPhone.

iOS, Android is Now kicks off From BBC

The BBC is only just getting round to producing an official Sport app, but the good news is that it's arrived for iOS and only a couple of weeks away from the Android platform.Currently looking a lot like the mobile site, the app nevertheless comes with some nifty features including customisable content and a handy fixtures calendar.But it will be the forthcoming functionality that will appeal most, with product manager Lucie McLean explaining to us that video and the ability to add your favourite teams to the navigation are imminent.

The BBC hopes that the app will be a must have download for sports fans following key events like next year's Commonwealth Games, the tennis at Wimbledon and, of course, next season's World Cup.

The BBC is mindful that Android users aren't especially pleased to be behind Apple users, but McLean explained the thinking behind the decision and what differentiates the app on the two platforms.Android we are trying to serve much more screen sizes - the main difference is that the navigation is on the left  it looks more Androidy.

We could have held and launched both together but that would have been quite dangerous launching two big products if there are issues.Users of popular 7-inch Android tablets Kindle Fire HD and Nexus 7 will be delighted that their devices WILL be given some love, a priority for the Beeb's team after not getting the Olympics app out for the devices.The Olympics we had this beautiful app built and two weeks later the Nexus 7 came out," added McLean.

Google Removes Censorship Feature For Users In China

Google has quietly disabled a feature that notified users of its search service in China when a keyword had been censored by the Chinese government’s internet controls, according to censorship monitoring blog GreatFire.org. The blog reports that the change was made sometime between December 5 and December 8, 2012, with no official statement from Google to announce or explain its removal.

According to GreatFire.org Google has also deleted a help article which explained how to use the 

feature which it says indicates that Google is self-censoring in this instance, rather than being blocked 

by the government (which has happened in the past). “Since the removal of the help article could only be done willingly by Google, the only explanation we see is that Google struck a deal with the Chinese government, giving in to considerable pressure to self-censor.The blog argues that the move “indicates a new development in the relationship between the Chinese government and Google.since Google previously and successfully fought government attempts to censor its censorship notification feature, not to mention implementing the feature in the first place.

Google Turns To offering free digital editions Magazines For Print Subscribers

If users can verify that they do indeed subscribe to the traditional tree-based edition, then they'll unlock the "free for print subscribers" option within the Play Store on their Android tablet or smartphone.The option only applies to selected magazines as it's at the publisher's discretion and is only available in the US at present with more countries rolling out soon.

Subscribers to TIME Magazine however, will need to insert their 11-digit subscriber number to gain access to the digital edition.Users will then be asked to complete their subscription, but will not be charged for it.Free magazines are only available on Android tablets and smartphones at the moment, although Google is hoping to bring the feature to the web-based Play Store in the future.

Review Dell Aivia Osmium keyboard

The Mad Catz STRIKE 7 keyboard are a bit of a guilty pleasure for this here reviewer, I am infinitely more pleased by simpler, more effective keyboard design.In fact, were it not for the fact I constantly mis-typed my passwords, I would still be using the plain black Das keyboard. Yes, the one with no key markings at all.

The Osmium is utterly retro, but with enough modern extras to make it relevant in today's crowded gaming peripherals market. Take away the sturdy wrist rest and the individual LED backlighting, and you'd be forgiven for thinking you were looking at a Dell keyboard from the early 90s.

The five colours indicate the different profiles, and you can access the macro and shortcut functionality via the GHOST macro engine software. You'll have to head to the Gigabyte website to dig out the utility, but it's less than a 12MB download so shouldn't tax your ISP restrictions too much.

As mentioned, you don't have to use the extra five 'G' keys as macros; you can mix and match between macro and shortcut as you see fit.It's all about how good the Osmium is in general PC use. I'm typing this review on the board right now and it's seriously making me consider tagging this in and replacing the Corsair K60 I've been typing on for the last six months. The non-slip coating on each Cherry Red MX key means you won't slip, and the 2mm actuation point on each key means you can be quite delicate with your key-presses and still retain your accuracy.

My only real issue is the fact that gaming keyboards now have to cost at least £100 before they can be taken seriously. But considering the K60 is still around £80, the awesome Mionix Zibal 60 is knocking around at £100 and the Mad Catz STRIKE 7 will cost you your first-born male child, the Osmium's price isn't that bad.
